Alabama football will travel on the road for one final time this season as the team heads to Norman to play Oklahoma. Here is the latest injury update for the Crimson Tide and an update on a suspended player.
Keon Sabb, safety — Head coach Kalen DeBoer gave an update on Sabb this Monday, stating he had surgery and would be out for the rest of the season due to his “lower extremity injury” in the 24-17 defeat against Tennessee.
“I know it would be obviously through this season, but we expect him back and ready to roll for next year,” DeBoer said.
Sabb has been replaced by Bray Hubbard, who has performed well in his spot with 11 tackles, two interceptions and two pass breakups in his three starts.
Keanu Koht, linebacker — Koht didn’t travel with the team to Death Valley a couple of weeks ago, leaving fans speculating what happened. It turns out Koht was suspended and ended up missing the game against Mercer as a result of the suspension.
Koht then announced on social media that he was entering the transfer portal and would not return to the Crimson Tide this season.
Jaeden Roberts, guard — The starting offensive lineman suffered an injury against LSU as he left the game with what appeared to be a leg injury, and his status was up in the air for the Mercer game.
He did not play against the Bears, leaving the right guard spot to Geno VanDeMark. But DeBoer said it was just to give Roberts a break, making it seem like he’ll be ready for the matchup against the Sooners.
“We played Geno a lot at right guard, just give Jaeden [a rest],” DeBoer said. “Jaeden could have been out there for us, but good to get Geno out there.”
DeVonta Smith, safety — The starting “Husky” for Alabama had suffered an injury in the 42-13 win over LSU and didn’t return to the game, and his status for the Mercer game was undetermined.
Smith started the game against Mercer and was rotating at his position with Wake Forest transfer DaShawn Jones. It looks like Smith is back healthy and will be ready to go for the rest of the season, barring another injury.
Que Robinson, linebacker — The starting “Wolf” for the Crimson Tide remains out for the season after his upper-body injury in the win over LSU.
Replacing him at “Wolf” for the Mercer game was Qua Russaw, who made a highlight-reel interception in the 52-7 win. But only one sack for the Crimson Tide defense in the game still has fans searching for who could replace Robinson’s pass-rushing ability.
Cole Adams, wide receiver — The punt returner remains out for the season after suffering a lower-body injury in the 34-0 win over Missouri.
Adams has been replaced in the punt returner spot by Ryan Williams and Jaylen Mbakwe, who have each caught punts for the Crimson Tide the past two games. Williams had a 28-yard return against LSU, and Mbakwe had an 18-yard return against Mercer that was called back due to holding.
