OPINION/EDITORIAL GUIDELINES

The opinion section of The Crimson White is an open forum for The University of Alabama and the Tuscaloosa community. The opinions editor is responsible for seeking guest columnists and expert opinions on the news of the moment. The opinions editor should present a variety of viewpoints on the opinions page. Staff members may not use the columns, opinions, or letters to the editor for rebuttals. The Crimson White may publish guest editorials, and they will include a one-sentence biography about the writer.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Submissions can be sent to the opinions editor at [email protected]. Priority will be given to those letters written by UA students, faculty, and staff on current events.

  1. The Crimson White will try to publish all letters received. Letters should be between 250 and 300 words. Any exceptions will be made at the discretion of the editors, who reserve the right to edit all letters submitted for brevity, content, and clarity.
  2. A writer must include a full name, year and major if a student, and a professional title if a UA employee, and city of residence if an Alabama resident.
  3. Students also must submit an email address and a phone number for verification purposes. The phone number will not be published.
  4. Contributors are limited to one letter every 30 days. Letters thanking individuals or organizations for personal services will not be accepted. The Crimson White does not publish customer complaints about businesses.
  5. An editor may decide to include the letter writer’s position or job title because it is pertinent and puts the letter in context.
  6. The Crimson White does not publish letters from groups endorsing political candidates, but The Crimson White will publish letters discussing candidates and campaign issues.
  7. Letters to the editor written for class assignments must be relevant to campus issues to be published.
  8. All letters become property of The Crimson White.

All comments and opinions in signed columns are those of the author and not The Crimson White staff, its advisers or UA and do not reflect the views of the faculty, staff, student body, the Media Planning Board or the Board of Trustees of the University of Alabama System.
