No. 1 Alabama travels to Atlanta to play Georgia in the SEC Championship. The last time the two teams matched up was in the same building they will be playing in on Saturday. Georgia's head coach Kirby Smart was  coach Nick Saban's defensive coordinator for nine of Saban's 12 years at Alabama. The two teams are extremely similar and have dominated in all of their wins this season. One day after his chief competitor for the Heisman Trophy accumulated nearly 500 yards of offense and four total touchdowns, Tua Tagovailoa did him one better. In three quarters plus three plays of action in the 83rd Iron Bowl, the sophomore signal-caller threw for 324 yards and six total touchdowns – a new school record – en route to a 52-21 victory over Auburn.

Alabama limited Auburn to 283 yards of total offense on 75 plays, for an average of 3.7 yards a play. It was the 17th time since the 2017 season that an Alabama opponent was held under 300 yards. Outside the three drives that resulted in touchdowns, the Tigers finished with 127 yards.

Tua Tagovailoa’s strong second half helps Alabama win Iron Bowl

In his first Iron Bowl, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa led Alabama to a 52-21 win against Auburn. He threw for five touchdowns, which ties the single-season mark in Alabama history, alongside 324 yards. He also ran for a score.
