Coming into the series against Oklahoma, Alabama was undefeated and was extremely hot. The flight to Oklahoma cooled off the Crimson Tide, as it lost game two of the series 16-4.
The Sooners dominated the Crimson Tide. They totaled 17 hits, put up 16 runs and walked nine times.
“We got outplayed in every area of the game tonight,” Alabama coach Brad Bohannon said in a press release. “It’s tough to win when you walk the other team nine times and make three errors, and Oklahoma did a very good job of taking advantage of our mistakes. We need to put this one behind us and get back to playing clean baseball tomorrow, just like we did the first 10 games of the season.”
Alabama starter Jake Walters struggled. He went just 3 1/3 innings, and allowed six runs. He threw 87 pitches. Connor Stutts fared about as well as Walters. Stutts recorded just one out, but allowed six runs off five hits.
The Sooners scored six unanswered runs from the fourth to the sixth inning. They recorded four hits, four runs and walked two times in the fourth, while it plated two more in the sixth by Kyle Mendenhall’s two run home run.
Alabama cut the lead down to just four in the top of the eighth inning. Hunter Alexander singled to center, driving in two runs. He finished with a team high three RBI, while going 3-for-5. Cody Henry was the only other player to record multiple hits. He went 2-for-3 with a RBI.
Heading to the bottom of the frame, Oklahoma led 8-4, but it put the game out of reach in the bottom of the eighth, when it put up eight runs. It finished with seven hits in the inning, three of which were extra-base hits.
Alabama will look to avoid the sweep on Sunday. Sam Gardner takes the mound for the Crimson Tide, while Kyle Tucker starts for the Sooners.
