Alabama linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton was named SEC Defensive Player of the week, the league office announced on Tuesday. Hamilton led the way for Alabama in its 24-7 win over No. 3 Florida State, finishing with eight tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss.
Hamilton also had one sack and anchored a strong run defensive that held the Seminoles to just 40 yards rushing and 250 yards overall. He also helped Alabama hold Florida State to just 7 points, which is the 16th time in the last 31 games that Alabama has held an opponent to 10 points or less.
This game was Hamilton’s first since he suffered an ACL tear in December. When asked if he was surprised that he played so well, Hamilton simply said, ““No. Not at all.”
This is the first time Hamilton has won SEC Defensive Player of the Week. Alabama will take on Fresno State on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
