Mazen Osama, a UA student and native of Cairo, Egypt, reached the finals in the Egypt F22 Futures tennis Tournament on Saturday.
Osama lost to fellow Egyptian Youssef Hossam, 7-5 (5), 6-1 on Sunday in the finals of the tournament.
Osama defeated Benjamin Lock 7-6 (8), 6-2 in the semifinals to set up the finals matchup against Hossam.
He lost only one set until the finals, which was the first set of the tournament. He defeated Eduardo Agustin Torre 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 in the first round. He swept Bernardo Saraiva 7-5, 6-4 in the round of 16, then swept Anis Ghorbel 7-6 (4), 6-3 to reach the semifinals.
He finished his junior season on the First Team All-Southeastern Conference. He led the Crimson Tide in both singles (19) and doubles (19) wins. He finished the season as the No. 31 player in the country for singles and No. 38 in the country for doubles. He was also named a 2016 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American.
