The Alabama Crimson Tide finished the Kickin’ Chicken Classic with a 9-3 win against tournament host Coastal Carolina on Sunday afternoon.
Alabama (5-0) racked up nine runs on 16 hits to come back from an early 2-0 deficit. Junior second baseman Demi Turner tied her career-high with four hits and freshman Bailey Hemphill hit her third home run of the season. Junior shortstop Sydney Booker hit her second home run of the year. Freshman Madi Moore earned the win with a career-high seven strikeout complete-game .
Alabama only managed four hits in the first three innings as the Chanticleers built a 2-0 lead in the third inning. The Crimson Tide immediately took the lead in the next inning, putting four runs on the board to take a 4-2 lead. Hemphill hit her home run in the fifth inning to stretch the lead to 6-2, and Booker added her two-run shot later in the inning for the 8-2.
The sixth inning saw freshman outfielder Gabby Callaway score for the Crimson Tide’s ninth run. The Chanticleers put a third run on the board in the seventh inning before a double play ended the game.
Alabama will host South Alabama on Wednesday, February 15 at 5 p.m. CT in its home opener at Rhoads Stadium.
