Alabama women’s golf won the Bryan National Collegiate in Browns Summit, North Carolina on Sunday by 14 shots over Georgia with a total score of 851 (-13). It was the team’s third victory in seven tournaments this season and second in a row.
The Crimson Tide shot its lowest round since September, an 8-under-par 278, in the final round, allowing it to pull away from the rest of the field after holding a five-stroke lead through two rounds. It was also the low round of the day by eight shots.
Freshman Kristen Gillman also earned her first career victory. Five shots behind the lead entering the final round, Gillman shot a 6-under-par 66 to finish with a total of 208 (-8) and a one-stroke win over North Carolina’s Bryana Nguyen.
Gillman’s 208 was the lowest score in tournament history and the third victory by an Alabama player this season.
Sophomore Lauren Stephenson, who held a two-stroke lead entering the final round, shot a 73 (+1) to finish tied for third, two strokes behind Gillman. It was Stephenson’s third top-three finish since transferring from Clemson in the fall.
Sophomore Cheyenne Knight, the third-ranked player in the country, rebounded from 76s in the first two rounds with a bogey-free 66 on Sunday, matching Gillman’s final round as the lowest of the tournament. Knight rose 29 spots on the leaderboard to a T16 finish.
Junior Lakareber Abe (75-73-72) placed T21 at 4-over-par, and senior Mia Landegren (76-71-81) finished at +12 in 49th place.
The team’s next tournament will be the Liz Murphey Classic in Athens, Georgia on April 7-9. Alabama beat UCLA in the finals to win the Liz Murphey Classic last year.
