The Alabama men’s golf team finished the Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, Tennessee in second place, one stroke behind Florida. Tournament host Vanderbilt, ranked No. 3 nationally, finished third.
The Crimson Tide took a one-stroke lead over the No. 6 Gators into Sunday’s final round. Three Florida players shot 5-under-par 66, resulting in the lowest team round of the tournament, a 13-under-par 271, and the victory.
Alabama shot its lowest round of the season on Friday (278), broke it Saturday (272) and nearly broke it again on Sunday (273). The 272 was Alabama’s lowest round since November 2015 and its three-day total of 823 (29-under-par) was its lowest since October 2015.
The runner-up showing is also the Crimson Tide’s highest finish of the season, surpassing its third-place finish at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate in March.
Redshirt freshman Josh Sedeno finished in solo second place at 9-under-par. He shot three consecutive 68s and was in a three-way tie for the lead entering Sunday.
It was a breakout tournament for Sedeno, whose previous career-best finish was a tie for 29th and career-low round was a 72. He had only played six career rounds in team competition for Alabama before this week.
Junior Lee Hodges (69-68-68) continued his recent stretch of strong play, finishing tied for third. He has now scored at or below par in 14 of his last 15 rounds.
Sophomore Davis Riley (71-68-68) and junior Jonathan Hardee (70-70-69) also had strong weeks, placing ninth and 12th, respectively.
Junior Steven Setterstrom’s Saturday 68 was one shot above his career low. He finished T27 at even-par 213. Freshman Alex Green played as an individual and finished T57. He shot a career-low 73 on Friday.
Alabama’s next tournament will be the Clemson Invitational in Salem, South Carolina from April 7-9.
