Heading into the bottom of the sixth inning Alabama trailed the No. 7 Florida Gators by three runs. Cobie Vance started the inning by drawing a walk. Chandler Taylor followed him with a RBI double to left center. Down two. After a walk to Hunter Alexander, Alex Webb doubled down the right field line, scoring Taylor. Down one.

Alabama had the tying run 90 feet away, and the go ahead run right after him, with no outs. Sam Finnerty came up and struck out on three pitches. Connor Short followed with a ground out to first on the first pitch of his at bat. Two outs with the tying run still 90 feet away.

After Walker McCleney was hit by a pitch Chandler Avant came up to bat with the bases loaded. Avant saw three balls go by him, going ahead 3-0 in the count. Florida starter Brady Singer would go on to strike Avant out to get out of the jam.

“That’s the guy we want up there” head coach Greg Goff said. “He’s been a good player for us.”

Florida would go on to score four runs in the next inning taking a 10-5 lead, eventually winning 13-6.

Singer would allow five runs over the stretch of six innings. The five runs were a season high and tied a career high for earned runs allowed. He also struck out 10 and walked three. He would finish with the win.

Nick Horvath pitched 2.1 innings. He would go on to allow an unearned run and strike out two batters. Frank Rubio pitched the last two outs of the game.

Dylan Duarte started for the Crimson Tide. He made it just three innings. Duarte allowed five runs of six hits. He struck out two and walked three in the loss. Overall Alabama would go on to use six pitchers over the course of the game.

“Dylan just didn’t have very good stuff,” Goff said. “Zac [Rogers] did a good job for a couple of innings. I think we have guys that once you see them a couple times you can make adjustments. We just ran out of bullets today.”

Florida would score 11 runs over the course of three innings. It took the lead in the third and never looked back. It also scored four in the top of the seventh and three in the eighth.

“They had a bunch of big two out hits,” Goff said. “They’re the fifth ranked team in the country for a reason. Every time we scored they answered.”

Ryan Larson provided the spark for the Gator offense. He went 2-for-5 with four RBIs with a pair of doubles. Only two Gator starters failed to record an RBI, however both would score twice.

Taylor and Webb would finish with a pair of RBIs and a double. Taylor and Webb would both finish 2-for-3 with a double. Taylor would also draw a walk.

The series finale is at 3 p.m. Nick Eicholtz starts for Alabama while Jackson Kowar starts for the Gators.
