Two current Alabama baseball players were selected on the last day of the MLB draft on Wednesday.

Chandler Taylor was drafted in the 27th round, No. 796 overall, while Garrett Suchey was drafted in the 26th round, No. 780 overall.

Including these two selections, Alabama has had a player selected in 39 consecutive drafts.

Suchey was drafted by the Kansas City Royals.

This past season was Suchey’s first with the team, since transferring from Wallace State-Hanceville Community College. He finished the season with a 2-7 record and three saves.

While a member of the Crimson Tide, Suchey served as the main bullpen pitcher, throwing a team high 73 2/3 innings and striking out a team high 70 batters. He also led the team in earned run average with a 3.18 ERA.

The Minnesota Twins selected Taylor. Taylor was the middle of the order hitter for the Crimson Tide. In his two seasons as the Crimson Tide right fielder, Taylor hit .278 with a team leading 25 home runs and 67 RBI.

This past season Taylor led the team in seven different categories: home runs (16), RBI (34), runs (39), walks (32), stolen bases (7-11), slugging percentage (.601) and total bases (113). Against the SEC, Taylor hit 10 home runs and contributed 15 RBI and 19 runs scored.

Taylor was the only member of the Crimson Tide to be selected to an All-SEC team, making it to the second team All-SEC. He also earned All-SEC Freshman Team honors in 216.

Both players have eligibility to return to Alabama, if unsigned by July 15.

Jake Walters, Cody Henry, Chandler Avant and Nick Eicholtz went undrafted. Walters was the No. 1 pitcher for Alabama last season, while Avant and Henry were both starters in the infield all year. All three just finished their junior seasons. Eicholtz, who was drafted last year, just completed his senior year.
