In case you missed it, the BCS standings were released this weekend with Alabama leading. Florida State, Oregon and Ohio State followed suit.
If I had to pick who I would like to see play Alabama – even though we’re months out from the biggest game of the college football season – it would be Florida State.
Granted, Oregon has been dominating the game pre-BCS polls. And many have said Oregon should be No. 1, but that doesn’t mean that they should go the national championship.
Over the weekend, FSU’s performance against Clemson proved that they are a worthy team to play against. And the BCS poll proves that. The real question is if they can keep the momentum going throughout the rest of the season.
The rest of FSU’s schedule looks like this: NC State, Miami, Wake Forest, Syracuse, Idaho and Florida. NC State should be an easy win since it is currently at 3-3.
Over the years, FSU has shown promise but has fallen each time. But as the 2013-14 season began, the Seminoles proved that they had turned things around. And if you missed the Maryland game two weeks ago, FSU solidified their dominance by shutting down the Terrapins 63-0.
Personally, it would be good to see another out-of-conference team play Alabama in the BCS championship game in January. SEC play is predictable because we know the teams too well. Playing an out-of-conference team spices things up.
Even if Alabama doesn’t play FSU in January, the likelihood that the Crimson Tide will play a non-SEC team is very probable. Missouri is No. 5 in the BCS poll followed by Auburn at No. 11. LSU and Texas A&M close out the poll ranking No. 13 and 16, so there would have to be a miracle for an SEC team to play Alabama.
If both FSU and Oregon keep the momentum going, it could be an exciting season. Both teams want to go to the end. Oregon’s been on the hunt for the BCS game for a couple of seasons but just hasn’t been able to fulfill its hopes yet.
With that being said, it’s still very early on in the season. Even the best teams can drop in the polls quickly.
