Alabama’s No. 20 men’s golf team finished the DICK’s Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup not in the way it wanted, but Junior Robby Shelton added another career highlight over the weekend winning his fourth tournament ever. He shot 8-under par 205. As a team, Alabama finished ninth overall.
“I am so proud of Robby and his performance this week,” coach Jay Seawell said. “He made great decisions throughout the week in his preparation. When he is focused like he was this week, he is very difficult to beat.”
Shelton finished with 15 birdies. He took the title by three strokes over Florida State’s Hank Lebioda. Sophomore Jonathan Hardee shot his best round of the season so far with a score of 6-over par. The others did not shoot as well.
“Our team can take lessons from the way Robby played. We need to go back to work and improve as a team. We are not playing well, but I believe we can still be a very good team.”
Alabama will be back in action two weeks from now for the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Birmingham.
