Alabama practiced indoors for its first session of a two-a-day this morning.
Practice Notes:
- Alabama QB Jake Coker was not at practice today.
- RB Kenyan Drake stood to the side of Alabama’s RB drills. Drake was not wearing a black non-contact jersey. Alabama coach Nick Saban said Drake tweaked his hamstring before last Saturday’s scrimmage.
- Wide receivers Robert Foster and Chris Black returned to practice. Foster wore a brace on his right knee after spraining his knee during Saturday’s scrimmage, but was not limited and seemed fully mobile, making a jumping catch during drills. Black, with a heavily taped ankle, remained limited, noticeably struggling with his cuts.
- RB Bo Scarbrough wore a black non-contact jersey but went through drills, including blocking Derrick Henry.
- Freshman OL Lester Cotton returned to practice after missing several days. He appeared to have no limitations in practice.
- Alabama worked in its Nickel package. Here is the first group:
- Cornerbacks – Freshman Minkah Fitzpatrick and senior Cyrus Jones
- Safeties – Seniors Geno Smith and Eddie Jackson
- STAR (Extra DB) – Junior Maurice Smith.
- LBs – Senior Reggie Ragland and Junior Reuben Foster
- Monte Kiffin, former NFL defensive coordinator and Lane Kiffin’s father, was at Alabama’s practice, sporting Alabama regalia.
UPDATE: Saban issued the following statement regarding Coker’s absence from practice.
“Jake Coker has a minor foot injury that we think will keep him out of practice for several days. Our physicians anticipate a full recovery.”
