The Alabama football team went to work for two hours in pads on Wednesday afternoon at the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields following the first day of classes on campus. The Crimson Tide will now settle into its daily routine that will be carried out throughout the season.
“We want to get a strong start academically,” head coach Nick Saban said. “That’s a really important thing, and that’s why these guys come here – to get an education. We are really pleased and happy to have had a great showing in summer school, which is really good, but now, we have to create some balance with our players.”
A total of six players on the 2012 roster already have degrees in hand, including Barrett Jones, Robert Lester, William Ming, Damion Square, Carson Tinker and Michael Williams. Over the past five seasons, the Tide has seen 58 players compete after graduation.
