The No. 2 Alabama softball team dropped the first game of the Women’s College World Series championship finals to no. 4 Oklahoma 4-1 on Monday at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium. The loss is the Tide’s first of the postseason, dropping the team’s overall record to 58-8.
USA Softball Player of the Year Keilani Ricketts (37-7) allowed one run on five hits while striking out 12. The Sooners (54-8) outhit the Tide, 11-5. Alabama sophomore pitcher Jackie Traina (40-3) took her first loss since May 4, allowing four runs – two earned – on 11 hits with six strike outs. Alabama seniors Jennifer Fenton and Kendall Dawson had two hits, and Dawson earned Alabama’s lone RBI.
Game two of the championship series is set for Tuesday at 7 p.m. The game will air on ESPN2.
