With national signing day for baseball and softball taking place last Friday, Alabama signed top-15 classes for both sports.
Both classes are headlined by top in-state recruits, with softball signing a top-10 player in the nation and both teams signing three of the top four recruits out of Alabama.
Baseball
Alabama baseball is coming off a season in which it went 33-24 and made the NCAA tournament. However, it lost in the Tallahassee Regional and finished with three straight losses to close the season out.
Infielder Gage Miller led the season with a .381 batting average, 72 runs and 83 hits. Miller was drafted in the third round of the MLB draft, leaving Alabama with infielder Justin Lebron, who had a standout freshman season and the second-highest batting average on the team.
Now four months away from the new season and almost a week after national signing day, Alabama has signed the No. 10 recruiting class for 2025.
The class consists of three top-100 players, two of whom are in-state. It is also made up of four in-state recruits and three of the top four players out of Alabama.
The top recruit in the class is Caleb Barnett out of Mountain Brook High School in Mountain Brook, Alabama.
Barnett is a third baseman and pitcher who can throw a 90-mph fastball, a 20-mph improvement since July 2020. His exit velocity ranges between 105 and 107 mph.
He was also the only player out of Alabama to be selected for the MLB’s High School All-American game. He was also invited to the Perfect Game All-American Classic.
With the help of these three and 12 other talented players in a top-15 class, Alabama will look to continue making appearances in the NCAA tournament.
Softball
Alabama softball is coming off its previous season having made the Women’s College World Series but exiting after a loss to then-No. 4 Florida.
The Crimson Tide finished with a 39-20 final record and a notable series win against then-No. 3 Tennessee, propelling Alabama to the World Series.
Major contributions from outfielder Jenna Johnson and infielder Kenleigh Cahalan, who have both since left Alabama, made the successful season possible.
Cahalan recorded the most hits on the team with 55 and a batting average of .296. Cahalan transferred to Florida in the offseason.
Johnson tallied 39 total runs, 39 hits and six home runs, tied for the second-most home runs on the team. It was her last season at Alabama as a graduate senior.
Now, head coach Patrick Murphy will be looking for impact from the top players in Alabama’s No. 7-ranked recruiting class.
The class has commitments from four of the top 50 players in the nation and is led by pitcher Victoria Moten, the ninth-ranked player in the nation.
Moten comes from in-state Daphne High School and won Gatorade 2023-2024 Player of the Year after leading her team to a 45-6 record and a state championship appearance in her junior year.
Along with an impressive 0.46 ERA, she also recorded 15 home runs and a batting average of .407. She achieved 22 shutouts and 17 no-hitters.
Moten has the chance to be a big role player for the Crimson Tide as she continues to improve her already diversified skill set, including an impressive ability to pitch and hit.
