Alabama junior guard Varisia Raffington will miss the duration of the 2009-10 season due to a torn medial collateral ligament (MCL) and partially torn posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), head coach Wendell Hudson announced on Wednesday.
She incurred the injury Sunday at Kentucky with 11:07 left to play in the second half. The injury will not require surgery, but will sideline Raffington for three months.
Raffington had started in all 18 games this season and was the Crimson Tide’s leading scorer, averaging 12.2 points per game. The Tallahassee, Fla., native also chipped in 5.1 rebounds per contest and had 24 assists, 16 steals and eight blocks thus far.
She had the best game of her career on Nov. 28 when she chipped in 33 points, connecting on 14-of-22 shots from the floor. Raffington was also averaging a team-best 30.3 minutes per game.
