The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for snow for central Alabama from 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, to 6 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10. Rain and snow may cause travel difficulties, including slippery roads and limited visibility. Icing may occur on elevated surfaces.
Based on this forecast and given that some students and employees travel longer distances to come to campus and that travel conditions could worsen at the time that evening classes are scheduled to end, the University will suspend normal operations and classes are cancelled as of 5 p.m. today. Operations and classes are expected to resume as scheduled on Thursday morning, Feb. 10. However, if road conditions impact safe travel, faculty, staff and students will be notified via text message, e-mail and the UA Web page of a delayed start time.
Please check weather conditions along the roadways you travel to get home and make the best decision for your personal safety.
The University’s emergency preparedness group will continue to monitor weather conditions. If needed, updated information will be available on the UA website at http://www.ua.edu, through local radio and television stations, and via UA Alerts text and e-mail alerts.
The University strongly encourages each person to monitor weather updates from the National Weather Service and local media sources. Safety tips are posted at http://prepare.ua.edu/ and at http://www.fema.gov/hazard/winter/index.shtm.
