Alabama avoided a sweep against Oklahoma on Sunday with a 13-1 over the Sooners. The Crimson Tide recorded a season-high 18 hits in the win.

“I’m very pleased with today’s effort; it was a good team win for us,” Alabama coach Brad Bohannon said in a press release. “As bad as we were in all areas yesterday, we were equally as sharp today. I’m hopeful that we can carry this momentum into Wednesday against a very good Southern Miss team.” 

The Crimson Tide did all of its damage from the third to the sixth inning, scoring all 13 unanswered runs in that time. It recorded 15 of its hits and three walks during that stretch.

Eight of its nine starters recorded a hit. Keith Holcombe was the only starter that failed to record a hit, ending his hitting streak at nine games. Six starters recorded multiple hits, led by third baseman Cobie Vance, who finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the win. 

Right-handed pitcher Sam Gardner finished with the win, his first career win for Alabama. The junior went five innings, allowing just one run and three hits, while striking out five. Davis Vainer, Deacon Medders and Dylan Duarte finished the game. Overall, the Crimson Tide struck out the Sooners nine times. 

Oklahoma scored in the first inning for the third time in the series, but Cody Henry evened the score in the third inning with an RBI double, scoring Vance. Henry would later score on a Chandler Avant single up the middle, that scored two. 

Alabama plated four more runs in the fourth inning. Jett Manning knocked in the first run of the inning with a double to right field. He scored off a single to center field by Vance. Henry finished the inning with a two-run home run over the right-field fence.

Chandler Taylor added a three-run home run in the top of the sixth, for his fourth long ball of the season.

Alabama returns home to face No. 16 Southern Miss on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
