University of Alabama football coach Nick Saban addressed the media before Monday for the first time since the Crimson Tide’s 48-0 pummeling of Kent State.
No. 1 Alabama hosts Kentucky for its homecoming game this Saturday. Kickoff is a 6 p.m.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Saban thought the team did exactly as he challenged it to against Kent State. Alabama played a complete game with a fast start.
- On the upcoming game, Saban said, “Kentucky has played this best in the last two games that they’ve played. Mark Stoops has done a really good job of sort of finding out who they really are and how they want to play.”
- Injury update: Running back Damien Harris is still day-to-day and “probably won’t do much today” in practice. Wide receivers ArDarius Stewart and Robert Foster are also day-to-day and questionable for Saturday’s game.
- On what this weekend means to the team, Saban said, “We’re looking forward to homecoming, playing at home. Hopefully we’ll have a great crowd that’s very enthusiastic and excited about this game. I know our players definitely will be.”
- Suspension update: Defensive back Tony Brown and defensive lineman Johnny Dwight are now eligible with the NCAA to play in games. Their suspensions are over.
- On Les Miles being fried as LSU’s coach, Saban said, I kind of hated that a man wins a national championships, wins two SEC titles and doesn’t make it through the season. It is what it is, but I have a tremendous amount of respect for Les Miles and what he has accomplished there, the number of wins he had.”
- Jersey number changes: Brown will now wear No. 2 rather than No. 7, making Jared Mayden now wear No. 8 instead of No. 2.
