Alabama’s top doubles team of Erin Routliffe and Andie Daniell, ranked No. 34 nationally by the ITA, recorded a win and a loss in back-draw matches at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships on Friday.
Routliffe and Daniell beat Caroline Daxhelet and Elena Cerezo-Codina, a team from Virginia Tech, 8-3. They then advanced to play the No. 5 Ohio State pair of Anna Sanford and Miho Kowase, who won the match, 8-2.
In between the two doubles matches, Routliffe, who is ranked No. 18 in the country, played a second-round match in the singles main draw. She would have advanced to the quarterfinals with a win, but she fell to North Carolina’s Hayley Carter, the nation’s No. 1 player, 6-2, 6-1.
