Capital Hall on The University of Alabama’s Bryce Lawn Campus was evacuated around 9:30 a.m. this morning after UAPD responded to reports of a natural gas odor.
The Tuscaloosa Fire Department and the University’s Office of Environmental Health and Safety responded to the reported gas odor. Due to the precautionary evacuation, classes in Capital Hall have been temporarily postponed.
Capital Hall is currently houses the UA School of Social Work while Little Hall undergoes renovations. The Center for Community-Based Partnerships is also located in the building.
Construction on Peter Bryce Boulevard and North Campus Way, which is scheduled to be completed by May 2017, is still in its first phase. It is unclear if the natural gas odor or evacuation of Capital Hall hindered construction efforts.
There have been no reports indicating whether a natural gas leak was actually discovered in or around Capital Hall.

UPDATE: Classes in Capital Hall are postponed until 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, according to an email sent on Tuesday afternoon to all students.
“The building is deemed safe, but, as a precaution, operations within it will resume Wednesday,” the email said.
