The University of Alabama women’s basketball team’s season came to an end with a 76-66 loss to Georgia Tech at McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta.
Alabama started strong in the first quarter with a small lead after the Yellow Jacket scored the first two points of the game, but Shaquera Wade put five points on the board for the Crimson Tide. The first quarter ended tied at 17-17.
“We just missed so many looks over and over again,” said Alabama head coach Kristy Curry. “It was one of those days where we couldn’t make shots. We outscore them by seven in the fourth. It’s that second quarter that jumped up and caught up with us. We have a lot to build on, a lot to be proud of and a lot to move forward with in the future.”
The Crimson Tide was led by sophomore Shaquera Wade who scored 15 points, junior Ashley Williams with 13 points and 13 rebounds, which was Williams’ third double-double of the season. Alabama freshman Jordan Lewis scored 13 points and accounted for a game high of six assists and three steals while junior Hannah Cook finished with 11 points.
Georgia Tech was led by redshirt junior Elo Edeferioka who had 16 points and 11 rebounds to finish the game. Juniors Zaire O’Neil and Antonia Peresson added 15 and 12 points respectively.
The Yellow Jackets shot 50 percent while the Crimson Tide shot 31.8 percent. Georgia Tech also outrebounded Alabama 37-36.
The loss meant that the Crimson Tide finished the season at 22-14, which is its highest win total since the 1997-98 season.
