Red Sox-Yankees, Cardinals-Reds and Cardinals-Cubs are some of the biggest baseball rivalries in baseball. Alabama-Auburn, one of the biggest rivalries in all of college athletics, revived the rivalry in the annual Max Capital Classic.
The scoring started in the third inning. Auburn lead off the top of the frame with a leadoff single by Josh Anthony, followed by a walk to Blake Logan. Anthony would come into score after an error from Alabama third baseman Connor Short. After a pair of strike outs and a walk, Auburn had the bases loaded. Daniel Robert hit a two RBI single to center, pushing across the third run of the inning.
Alabama would respond in the next three innings. The first run came in the bottom of the third from a single by Cobie Vance scoring Short. In the fourth, with the bases loaded Chandler Taylor hit a sacrifice fly to center field, cutting the lead to just one run.
The Crimson Tide would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth off a sacrifice fly by Cody Henry, scoring Chandler Avant.
The final run of the game would come right after the Crimson Tide tied it. Robert would lead off the top of the sixth with a walk. He would then steal second base and advance to third off a sacrifice fly to right field. Logan would single him in for the game winning run, for the final score of 4-3
Vance would finish with two of the five Alabama hits on the day. He finished 2-for-3 with a walk and a RBI.
Garret Rukes started for the Crimson Tide for the fourth time this season. He went three innings allowing three runs off three hits. He also struck out five. Sam Finnerty finished with the loss. He pitched 2.1 innings and allowed one run.
Corey Herndon finished with the win for the Tigers. He pitched 1.2 innings and allowed an unearned run. Andrew Mitchell finished with the save. He struck out one batter in his 1.1 innings of work.
The loss drops Alabama under .500 (12-13) for the first time since Feb. 26. The Crimson Tide looks to get back to .500 against Arkansas on Friday at 6 p.m.
