The National Associate of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women announced on Tuesday that three Alabama gymnasts have earned regular season All-American honors. Senior Aja Sims as well as juniors Nickie Guerrero and Kiana Winston were all recognized for their achievements this season.
Guerrero earned first-team honors for the balance beam, where she is ranked No. 4 for the regular season. Sims, who was a consistent threat on the floor exercise, received second-team honors for that event.
Winston was one of three gymnasts in the entire country to be earn more than three All-American honors. Winston received first-team honors in all-around, floor exercise and balance beam, while also earning second-team honors on the uneven bars. Winston, who also received first-team honors for the balance beam during her sophomore year, now has the most regular season first-team honors in program history during the award’s five-year history. She is tied for most overall recognitions in program history for the award.
The award is based on the final regular season regional qualifying scores. The top eight in each event earn first-team honors, while the next eight after that earn second-team honors.
All three gymnasts will play important roles when the team travels to the NCAA Championships on Friday.
