Alabama football released a depth chart on Monday following coach Nick Saban’s first regular season press conference of the year. There were not many surprises. The one thing most fans were concerned with is the starting quarterback position. The depth chart didn’t make it much clearer as it listed Cooper Bateman/ Blake Barnett/ Jalen Hurts as costarters however Saban said only Bateman and Barnett will compete to start against the Trojans on Saturday. ‘
- Running backs Bo Scarbrough and Damien Harris were also listed as co-starters.
- Jonah Williams is the only true freshman starter listed on offense or defense (disregarding Hurts’ co-starter designation). Williams will be the second offensive tackle under Saban to start his first game during his freshman year. The first tackle to do that is the tackle opposite of Williams, Cam Robinson.
- Bradley Bozeman was listed as the Crimson Tide’s starting center, Ross Pierschbacher moved over the right guard and Lester Cotton occupies the starting left guard spot on Alabama’s depth chart.
- Other freshman listed as backups include: Terrell Hall (JACK LB), Mack Wilson (WILL LB), Shyheim Carter (CB) (STAR), Deionte Thompson (FS), Matt Womack (LT), Brandon Kennedy (LG) (RG), Miller Forristall (TE), Irv Smith Jr. (TE-H), T.J. Simmons (WR), BJ Emmons (RB), Joshua Jacobs (RB)
- The kickoff returners are ArDarius Stewart and true freshman Trevon Diggs.
- Calvin Ridley is listed as the starting punt returner. Ridley is also listed as the starting H receiver and is slated as a co-starting X receiver alongside Robert Foster. ArDarius Stewart locked down the remaining starting spot.
