Twenty years after the program started, Alabama softball notched its 1,000th win. It only needed five innings to do it in the 14-0 win over Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday.
Alabama averages more than 50 wins a year.
“There’s not many times when you’re in a program that’s 20 years old that you get to see history, and Team 20 was a part of history tonight,” Alabama coach Patrick Murphy said. “A thousand wins is a lot. They’re all a part of history now, and it’s going to be a long time before there’s 2,000 wins.”
On Tuesday night, Alabama put up double-digit runs for the 12th time this season. Junior utility Chandler Dare went 2-2 with three RBIs in the first inning alone. She finished 2-4 on the night. Alabama had 11 hits on the historic night and drew eight walks.
“It’s kind of hard to grasp how many wins that is,” Dare said. “You think about it, it’s 20 years, and that’s 20 seasons so it’s really cool to be part of this moment of history.”
Sophomore right-hander Alexis Osorio (9-5) earned the win after three innings pitched. She struck out seven straight batters before walking one. She finished with two walks. Freshman lefty Madi Moore pitched two innings. She allowed one hit and struck out two.
No. 4 Alabama (32-7, 5-4 SEC) hosts Mississippi State for a weekend series starting Friday at 6:30 p.m.
