On Monday the SEC honored two Alabama players with player of the week honors after the Crimson Tide beat then No.2 LSU 30-16.
Adam Griffith was named the SEC special teams player of the week after he connected on all three of his field goal attempts. The distances varied from 22 yards out to 55 yards out. Griffith’s 55-yarder tied the school record for longest made field goal without a kicking tee. The only longer kick in school history is Van Tiffin’s 57-yarder against Texas A&M that he kicked in 1985 with the help of a kicking tee.
Center Ryan Kelly was named the SEC offensive lineman of the week after Alabama rushed for 250 yards against what was then the SEC’s No. 1 rush defense. The line helped lead running back Derrick Henry average 5.5 yards per carry. Kelly did not allow a sack or a pressure and he graded out at a season and team-high 92 percent.
