The city of Tuscaloosa will be welcoming a new, upscale brunch café in the fall. Another Broken Egg is set to open in the new Riverwalk retail-condominiums in late October.
Another Broken Egg is a full-service restaurant specializing in breakfast and lunch. Ron Green founded the café fifteen years ago and now owns 23 different locations.
Many people know the restaurant for its 8 different signature benedicts, but it also has a very diverse menu, including Cajun, Southwestern and Californian styles.
“We are what you would call a premium breakfast and lunch restaurant,” Green said.
Green, who was born in Alabama, says that opening up the restaurant in Tuscaloosa has always been an option.
“I have a lot of family in the Tuscaloosa and Northport area,” Green said. “It was a natural progression after being in Birmingham and Huntsville.”
Another Broken Egg is also well known for their custom-made stoneware coffee mugs. To pay tribute to the city of Tuscaloosa and the city’s love of football, the restaurant will be selling these mugs in the colors of the Crimson Tide. The famous houndstooth hat worn by Paul “Bear” Bryant will also be featured on the mugs.
Several Tuscaloosa residents are pleased with the new additions to Jack Warner Parkway. Brittany Simon, a graduate from UA, lives across the street from where the restaurant will be opening and is happy to finally have food choices closer to her.
“I have always said that this road needs to be updated with restaurants and stores. I am very happy that this is finally happening,” Simon said.
With so many college students living near the restaurant’s new location, it seems a restaurant only open during the day might be in trouble. Green, however, believes that this will not hurt his business in the slightest. “There is so much competition at nighttime,” Green said. “We feel that we are the best at what we do, and we do that between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.”
The restaurant will be available to guests at nighttime for private events and parties. April Maner, a graduate from UA, held her rehearsal dinner for her wedding at the Huntsville restaurant. “We had a great time at Another Broken Egg,” Maner said. “The people there were extremely friendly and helpful. I would recommend them to anyone.”
Although the exact date for the opening of the restaurant is not official, Green does plan on hosting a charity event sometime during the opening week.
“We will be doing a ‘Family and Friends’ charity event benefitting a nonprofit in Tuscaloosa,” Green said. These opening events are a tradition of Another Broken Egg.
The restaurant’s manager will begin hiring a morning staff in September. “Another Broken Egg is a great place for someone who is wanting to get into the restaurant business,” Green said.
