The University of Alabama’s internationally acclaimed Huxford Symphony Orchestra is in need of string musicians. Non-music majors who play violin, viola, cello or double bass may be eligible to earn scholarships to play in the orchestra.
Those interested must go through an audition process. If accepted, they will be able to register for the orchestra as a one credit hour class. The orchestra rehearses Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
The 2011-2012 season of the Huxford Symphony Orchestra will include classic pieces such as Tchaikovsky’s “Romeo and Juliet,” Ravel’s “Bolero” and Puccini’s “La Boheme.” Past accomplishments of the orchestra include performing with the classic rock band Kansas in September 2010.
Anyone interested in learning more about the scholarship can email Dr. Demondrae Thurmon at [email protected]. For more information about the School of Music, visit: www.music.ua.edu or call 205-348-7110.
