University honor groups will continue a century-old tradition with the Tapping on the Mound ceremony on Honors Day, April 5.

Who: University honor groups such as Omicron Delta Kappa, Mortar Board, Blue Key National Honor Society and The Anderson Society will recognize new students.

What: Tapping on the Mound

When: Friday, April 5 at 1:30 p.m.

Where: The Mound on the west side of the quad (the rain location is Morgan Auditorium)

Why:

The Tapping on the Mound ceremony will be held on the last day of Honors Week when classes are canceled.

“Our four major senior honoraries cap new members into their organizations, and it’s a great opportunity for families and folks to come together,” said Rosalind Moore-Miller, director of Student Involvement. “It’s just a great time celebrating their accomplishments and some of our most deserving students. As the students moving into their final year at UA, we are recognizing them for the work that they put in.”

If a student is interested in joining an honor society, the Honors Society preview day, which happens every spring, is a proactive way to learn more about what each offers, Moore-Miller said.

“Honor Society preview day gives students an opportunity to talk with members of other societies about what the benefits of joining an honor society, and what some of the things that those groups are doing both in the community and on our campus,” Moore-Miller said. “They look for students who are involved in their communities, who are involved on campus or who might be excelling in their major or profession. It’s a really diverse kind of process.”
