Q: What is your year, major and hometown?

I am a senior; public relations, minoring in French; New Orleans, Louisiana.

Q: What inspired you to run?

A: First, I am so humbled and honored to be a candidate for homecoming queen. My fellow student athletes who nominated me are very important to me, and it is my hope to represent them in the finest way possible. But what truly inspired me to accept the nomination and run was the ability to share my platform to a larger audience.

Through the campaigning process, I was able to share the great work being done at Alberta Head Start and was able to recruit more volunteers that they so desperately need. The additional exposure I was able to provide for them because of my candidacy has meant the world to me.

Q: What is your platform and why are you passionate about it?

A: My platform is Alberta Head Start. It’s a five-minute drive from campus. Alberta Head Start supports over 180 children from ages five weeks old to six years old. This program is dedicated to helping kids from low-income homes and those with physical disabilities prepare for their future schools. There are about 30 teachers, as well as a custodian and a chef.

This school means the world to me. I have spent countless hours reading, singing songs and playing outside with the kids. It’s important to me to help build the educational foundation for these children so they can excel in school and in life. One of the most fulfilling aspects of my campaign was putting my passion into action by hosting a volunteer day at Alberta Head Start and holding a children’s book drive.

Q: Why do you think students should care about homecoming court?

A: On the University’s homecoming webpage, it states that “homecoming is a time for friends, fans, alumni and the like to come together to celebrate the legacy and spirit of excellence found at UA.” Each one of the homecoming queen candidates embodies all that is good at UA.  Homecoming is a time for us to think about all the wonderful things that Alabama has given us during our time here.

By voting, students have the opportunity to acknowledge the contributions the candidates have made to the University and to participate in one of the traditions that make our university great. I encourage all students to participate in the many homecoming activities and have fun.

Q: Why should students vote for you?

A: This year’s homecoming theme is “Excellence Lights the Crimson Flame.” In everything I do, I strive for excellence. Whether it’s competing on behalf of the Crimson Tide or representing the University in the corporate world through internships, I work relentlessly to represent the University in the best light possible. Through my various activities, I have been privileged to associate with such a broad range of students.

For this, I will forever be grateful. I, like my fellow students, have had good days and bad days, have aced tests, and perhaps struggled with one or two, and have made amazing friends and memories. I could go on and on, but what’s important is that I am one of you. I will represent you to the best of my ability. I encourage you, my fellow students, to take the opportunity and vote on Oct. 9.
