With Alabama football traveling to the White House on Tuesday, the team kicked off this week’s abnormal practice schedule on Monday. The team’s remaining practices will be Wednesday and Friday, and it will hold its second of three spring scrimmages on Saturday.
Notes:
- Defensive back Trevon Diggs was back practicing with the rest of the DBs. He missed two practices and Saturday’s scrimmage last week, but coach Nick Saban said Saturday that Diggs was expected to be back this week.
- Wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, however, is not expected to be back with the team this week, but the team remains optimistic that he will return by A-Day on April 21. He was in a black, non-contact jersey on Monday.
- Running back Josh Jacobs was also in a non-contact jersey. Details of his injury are unknown.
- The outside linebackers started practice by bursting up out of their stance and bending over to pick up a towel while other OLBs held elastic bands around their waists. Defensive coordinator and OLB coach Tosh Lupoi wanted them to “feel the resistance”. Lupoi also yelled “Hut! Hut!” repeatedly, telling the players they were practicing dealing with hard counts from opposing quarterbacks.
- Alex Leatherwood was spotted with the first-team offensive line at right tackle. Jonah Williams (left tackle), Ross Pierschbacher (center), and Lester Cotton (right guard) were at their customary positions. Jedrick Wills had been the first-team right tackle for most of spring practice thus far.
- Joining Diggs in defensive back drills were Saivion Smith, Shyheim Carter, Deionte Thompson, Xavier McKinney, and Daniel Wright. Others rotated in, but those were on the field the most.
