What: State of the Black Union

Who: The events will be sponsored by the Black Student Union and University Programs. Keynote speakers for the address include Andre Taylor and Kendra Key

When: Thursday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. 

Where: Ferguson Student Center Great Hall

Why: Featuring keynote speakers Andre Taylor and Kendra Key, The University of Alabama’s State of the Black Union will provide students a welcoming environment to discuss pertinent racial and societal issues and express concerns.

President of the University’s Black Student Union Candace Allen, a senior studying athletic training and African American studies, said this year’s address includes “interactive and thought provoking speakers” to help celebrate the Black Student Union’s 50th anniversary. 

“We will have a call to action delivered by a UA freshman and a high school essay winner, as well as keynotes from Andre Taylor and Kendra Key,” Allen said. “We look forward to welcoming students from all backgrounds to hear and engage different perspectives on the current state of the black community, as well as discuss methods and strategies of moving forward towards progress in our various communities.”
