Alexis Osorio was voted to the preseason All-SEC team, announced on Wednesday. The team was announced following a vote from the conference’s 13 head coaches.
The right-handed Crimson Tide ace earned her second All-America nod last season. She led Alabama with 23 wins, a 1.21 ERA and 334 strikeouts, averaging 1.65 strikeouts per inning. Osorio’s strikeouts paced the SEC, ranked fifth nationally and came in as the fourth-highest mark in program history. The 1.21 ERA was also the fourth best in program history.
Osorio posted four games of 18 strikeouts more, doubling the feat that had only been accomplished twice in Alabama history. Osorio opened the 2017 season with the fourth perfect game in Alabama history, recording a school-record 19 strikeouts in the outing.
Osorio continued her success into the post-season, allowing just two earned runs with 29 strikeouts in 23.2 innings against top-ranked Minnesota and Florida.
Alabama opens its season, led by Osorio, on against South Alabama in Mobile. The Crimson Tide open its home schedule Feb. 23 in the Easton Bama Bash. Alabama will host Georgia State, Florida State and Northern Iowa.
