What: Research Rescue — special drop-in hours for help with all stages of research.

The drop-in hours are an extension of the library’s normal 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. hours, during which a student can get help with research. Students will meet one-on-one with a librarian to discuss things such as developing a topic and finding sources.

Who: Librarians will be available during this time to help with research. All students are welcome.

When: Every Monday-Thursday from 4-6 p.m. until December 12.

Where: The Gorgas Library first floor information desk.

Why: Jon Ezell, an Instructional Design Librarian at Amelia Gayle Gorgas Library, spoke of the abundance of information students have access to, and the need to be able to sift through and assess sources they may use.

“There’s the sort of cliché of ‘there’s more information now than ever before’ and there’s a need to be able to critically evaluate those sources,” Ezell said. “Since nowadays we’re divorced from the source’s physical form, it’s difficult to look at a source online and immediately tell whether it’s a newspaper article or a magazine article, and evaluating those sources is an important aspect of an academic writing project.”
