Multiple Republican power players, including some from within the Trump Campaign, have come out against the GOP nominee’s claim that the presidential election will be rigged in favor of Democrat Hillary Clinton.
Over the weekend, Trump made waves in New Hampshire with accusations of widespread voter fraud and media collusion with the Clinton Campaign. “It looks to me like a rigged election. The election is being rigged by corrupt people pushing completely false allegations and outright lies in an effort to elect her president,” Trump said. “We can’t let them get away with this, folks…Remember this, it’s a rigged election.”
Speaker Paul Ryan released a statement earlier this week refuting Trump’s accusation that the fix is in. “Our democracy relies on confidence in election results, and the speaker is fully confident the states will carry out this election with integrity,” his office said in a statement.
One-time primary rival Gov. John Kasich laughed off Trump’s claims and called them counter-productive. “To say that elections are rigged and all these votes are stolen, that’s like saying we never landed on the moon. That’s how silly it is,” Kasich said on CBS. “I don’t think that’s good for our country or our democracy.”
Trump’s own campaign manager Kellyanne Conway also weighed in, saying she does not believe there will be instances of widespread voter fraud on Nov. 8. “Absent overwhelming evidence that there is [voter fraud], it would not be for me to say that there is,” she told MSNBC.
