Alabama freshman point guard Jordan Lewis has been named the SEC freshman of the week for the fifth time this season. Lewis now has as many individual awards as the program itself did when the team began this season.
The league office announced on Tuesday that Lewis got the honor after both her performance against the Tennessee Lady Vols and the Auburn Tigers. Lewis scored three of Alabama’s 10 points in overtime against Auburn in addition to two defensive rebounds that helped to seal the Crimson Tide’s victory.
“It’s like coach Kristy [Curry] says, this award may have my name on it but really it’s a team award. Without my team I wouldn’t get these awards at all, this is a team effort” Lewis said in a press release.
In Thursday’s game against Tennessee, Lewis tied her career high in assists (eight), which helped Alabama to beat the Lady Vols in back-to-back games for the first time in program history.
This week Lewis played for an average of 39 minutes and during that time she averaged 10.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.5 steals. She now averages 34.0 minutes per game in SEC play, which is the most out of every freshman in the league.
