Alabama held the first practice of the spring period on Tuesday. The team will once again have to replace former all-americans and national awards winners. Players wore jerseys, pants and helmets, but did not have pads on.
Notes:
- New offensive coordinator Brian Daboll was seen working with quarterbacks. For most of the viewing period, players like Jalen Hurts and Mac Jones threw short passes at the line of scrimmage. Daboll was hands on with the players, talking to them during reps.
- Redshirt freshman Ben Davis was seen running through drills with the outside linebackers. Davis came to Alabama as a middle linebacker.
- Running backs worked on footwork and staying low to the ground. The players would hop and run under hurdles. Newcomers Najee Harris and Brian Robinson were working in this group. Bo Scarbrough, who injured his leg in the National Championship, ran through some drills but also stepped aside during some to watch his teammates. He was in a black, non-contact jersey.
- Junior Minkah Fitzpatrick, who played moved from cornerback to safety after the injury to Eddie Jackson, was seen working with the cornerbacks today.
- Senior Shaun Dion Hamilton practiced in a black, non-contact jersey. He tore his ACL during the SEC Championship against Florida. He ran through some drills on the field and rode on a stationary bike.
- New Athletic Director Greg Byrne came out onto the field to watch his first football practice since taking over the job this month.
- Head coach Nick Saban, as usual, worked with the defensive backs in the middle of the field.
