The SGA Elections Board published a notice and certification via Facebook on Thursday morning announcing that it is referring several potential violations regarding SGA president-elect Jared Hunter to the Office of Student Conduct for a full investigation. Also in the notice, the Elections Board certified the SGA election results save for two graduate seats.

In the notice, the Elections Board stated that it received a number of “significant complaints” associated with Jared Hunter’s conduct throughout the duration of the election cycle. Included in the complaints listed by the Elections Board were potential violations associated with Hunter’s failure to complete community service obligations prior to their assigned deadline and his public acknowledgment of his endorsement by Theta Nu Epsilon, commonly referred to as “The Machine.”

Hunter was assigned 20 hours of community service as a part of the Election Board sanctions he received on Feb. 28 after he was found guilty of violations related to his campaign kickoff event. Ten of the 20 hours were supposed to be completed by Monday, March 6.

In an unprecedented and controversial move, Hunter publicly announced his Theta Nu Epsilon backing in a column published by The Crimson White on Feb. 28.

The Elections Board announced in the notice that it received additional allegations concerning “groups and individuals who tampered or interfered with the SGA election process,” along with other pending charges related to questionable campaign conduct by Hunter.

According to the notice, the Elections Board referred the open issues regarding Hunter’s campaign conduct and additional allegations concerning election interference to the Office of Student Conduct due to the significance and volume of the matters. The Elections Board urged the Office of Student Conduct to consider all available sanctions, specifically mentioning fines, restitution and loss of privilege, when conducting its investigation.

The Elections Board’s notice comes only weeks after it extended a summons for students with knowledge of “The Machine” to come forward. The summons marked the first time that the SGA Elections Board has publicly acknowledged the existence of “The Machine.”
