Coming off of its nine-run outing on Thursday, Texas A&M wasn’t about to let up. It once again showed off its offense by scoring eight runs to win the weekend series against Alabama.
The Aggies started off by scoring in the top of the first for the second straight day. Nick Choruby led the game off with a single. He would advance to second on a ground out to short, and would come into score after Hunter Coleman’s single.
After a scoreless second inning A&M would score a run coming off a groundout by Braden Shewmake, which was followed by a three-run home run over the left field fence, off the bat of Cole Bedford, making it a 5-0 game before the end of the third inning.
Texas A&M would add another pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning, to lead 7-0 before Alabama even scored.
Dylan Duarte struggled against the A&M offense. He finished with the loss and just pitched 4.1 innings. He allowed a season high seven runs off nine hits.
“I thought tonight they just beat us,” head coach Greg Goff said. “Their hitters had a good approach on [Dylan] Duarte.”
On the other side the Aggie starter Corbin Martin was excellent. He pitched seven innings and allowed just one run off four hits.
“He had command on all his pitches,” Cobie Vance said. “He mixed well. There were a couple times where there would be a plus count for a hitter and he would flip a slider out there and get us out front.”
Offensively the Crimson Tide finished with only five hits, two of which were Vance’s. Vance tied his own hit streak from earlier this season with eight games. Chandler Avant also extended his hitting streak to nine, which ties the longest on the team this season.
Alabama returns to action on Saturday at 3 p.m. Nick Eicholtz will start for the Crimson Tide, while Stephen Kolek will start for the Aggies.
