Alabama’s football team is currently collecting donations of items that will help provide relief to those in need after the severe flooding of Baton Rogue, Louisiana. Overall, 13 people have been declared dead and 40,000 homes have been damaged as a result of the disaster.
“When natural disasters occur, like the catastrophic flooding in South Louisiana, football and rivalries take a back seat to providing help to those in need,” said head coach Nick Saban in a press release.
The football team traveled around Tuscaloosa in a truck over the weekend collecting donations from the Yeah, Yeah, Yeah 5K run at Government Plaza and from patrons at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater. Players will be available to collect donations in person when the truck makes its final stop at the Home Depot on Veterans Memorial Parkway this Tuesday, Aug. 23, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Alabama has a number of players from Louisiana with families affected by the flooding. Tim Williams and Cam Robinson are both from the state, as is strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran.
Those wishing to help the football team in its effort can donate water, nonperishable foods, toiletries, infant products, cleaning supplies and gift cards to home supply stores.
