With a threat of bad weather on Wednesday, the Alabama baseball team decided to crunch the two-game series against Alcorn State into a Tuesday doubleheader. This will be the second doubleheader in as many weeks for the Crimson Tide. 

“We’ve done it so much lately everybody is just kind of ready for it,” utility shortstop Daniel Cucjen said. “It doesn’t really matter if it’s one game or two, we are just going to compete and try to get a ‘W’ every time.”

Alabama just dropped a series at Georgia last weekend and has lost two midweek games in a row. Coach Mitch Gaspard said this doubleheader is important. Alabama can pick up some momentum on Tuesday that the team could carry over into the weekend series against Kentucky.

“You just look around this league and right now at 5-4, hell I think we are in second place in the conference, and it feels like you’ve been beat up,” Gaspard said. “You’ve got teams in the top 10 teams right now that are 2-7, 3-6. The damn league is tough. So mentally you just have to stay with it. You just have to keep going. It is unlike any other sport.”

Freshman Brock Love will make his first collegiate start for Alabama in game one. Love has a 2.89 earned run average over 9.1 innings of relief work so far this season. Love was ranked the No. 1 prospect in the state of Alabama by Perfect Game USA.

“Love is a guy we are excited about. I think he’s going to be a real good one here,” Gaspard said. “It’s his first college start and a real good opportunity for him tomorrow.”

Gaspard said Jake Hubbard will start the second game, and many of the pitchers will get some work in during that game. 

Game one is set for a 3 p.m. start, while game two is set for 6 p.m.
