The University of Alabama football team practiced Monday and Wednesday in full pads, but the players spent Friday afternoon’s practice in mesh shorts, for a lack of complete padding. Friday marked Alabama’s seventh spring practice, hitting the halfway mark practice wise for A-Day on April 16.
Alabama coach Nick Saban, per usual, was working with the secondary. The defensive backs worked on one-on-one physicality at the beginning of the media-viewing period and then transitioned to more game-like situations where Saban oversaw the players’ coverage.
PRACTICE NOTES:
- Wide receiver Raheem Falkins and linebacker Shawn Jennings rode the stationary bikes off to the side in black, non-contact jerseys.
- Among the defensive backs and Saban, Eddie Jackson was in a black, non-contact jersey also.
- The linebackers, including Reuben Foster and Shaun Dion Hamilton, practiced their blocking and then catching short passes to simulate interceptions. Rashaan Evans continued to spend his time practicing with the group, having spent the past two weeks with the inside linebackers.
- Like the linebackers, the tight ends worked on their blocking during the media-viewing period.
- Running backs, such as Bo Scarbrough and Damien Harris, were on the far side of Alabama’s practice field and they appeared to be working on ball control by running through drills carrying two footballs. They practiced staying low by running under equipment and footwork by maneuvering around cones.
- Quarterbacks, including Cooper Bateman, Blake Barnett and David Cornwell, worked with the wide receivers also on the far side of the field. The wide receivers ran a variety of routes for the quarterback, making cuts and changing directions. Among the wide receivers were ArDarius Stewart and Robert Foster, who was in a black, non-contact jersey.
- Alabama’s eight early enrollees have been participating in spring practices. Quarterback Jalen Hurts, wide receiver T.J. Simmons and offensive linemen Jonah Williams and Charles Baldwin were seen working among their respective groups on Friday.
- Cam Robinson, sporting a black, non-contact jersey, was with his offensive linemen group, which focused on blocking with a quick reaction time to a simulated snap. Ross Pierschbacher was also with the group.
