The Alabama women’s tennis team was unable to take down No. 14 Texas A&M on March 5. In its first home outdoor match of the season, the Crimson Tide dropped a 4-1 decision to fall to 4-6 overall and 0-2 in the SEC. It was Alabama’s second straight match against a ranked opponent.
Alabama fell behind quickly in doubles play, with the Aggies jumping out to 4-0 leads in two of the matches. Domenica Gonzalez and Ines Deheza took down senior Natalia Maynetto and junior Joanna Nena Savva, 6-0, to help Texas A&M dominate doubles play. No. 20 Andie Daniell and Erin Routiffe would lose a 3-2 lead over Rachel Pierson and Eva Paalma, then falling 6-3.
Alabama did not have much success in the singles competitions, with the Aggies winning the first four sets of the day. Deheza quickly defeated sophomore Aryn Greene 6-0, 6-1 and Rutuja Bhosale took down Savva 6-0, 6-4.
Alabama would finally pick up a win with Roultiffe defeating Rachel Peirson in a 6-4, 6-4 victory. The Aggies then clinched the match, however, with No. 53 Saska Gavrilovska beating No. 38 Daniell by a score of 6-4, 6-4.
Alabama will continue to face off against ranked opponents, travelling to face No. 7 Georgia on March 11.
