WHAT: The University’s College of Community Health Sciences will host the Brussels Sprouts Challenge as a part of this year’s American Heart Association’s West Alabama Heart Walk for the second year in a row.
WHO: Richard Streiffer, dean of the College of Community Health Sciences, created the challenge.
WHEN: Feb. 13 at 8:00 a.m.
WHERE: The Tuscaloosa Amphitheater
WHY: The challenge was created to promote a healthier lifestyle and as an alternative to the Krispy Kreme challenge, which has its contestants run a mile, eat a dozen donuts, and then run another mile. Contestants of the Brussels Sprouts Challenge will walk 3.1 miles and have the opportunity to eat Brussels sprouts at each mile checkpoint. In partnership with Manna Deli and Grocery, the University’s College of Community Health Sciences will distribute the roasted Brussels sprouts. The College will be providing free health screenings before, during, and after the walk, and those who complete the challenge will receive a free T-shirt.
