Alabama defeated Clemson 51-50 on Sunday to secure the program’s fourth consecutive victory away from home for the first time since 2001-02 season.
Sunday’s road game against Clemson was also the team’s first game since losing freshman point guard Dazon Ingram to a season ending injury suffered in practice last week. Sophomore Justin Coleman got the start replacing Ingram, but senior Retin Obasohan is also expected to help with point guard duties for the remainder of the season.
Obasohan finished the night with a career-high 23 points. He shot 4-of-7 from beyond the arc and 9-of-16 from the field. Shannon Hale was the only other Alabama player to finish the night in double figures (12 points).
Clemson took its first lead since the opening minutes of the game with just over two minutes remaining in the game. Clemson held onto its slim 50-49 lead until Hale took a steal all the way to the rim to give Alabama the lead with 19 seconds remaining.
Prior to the game against Clemson, Ingram led the team in rebounds, averaging 5.9 per game. The Crimson Tide made due without him, and out-rebounded the Tigers 44-30 thanks in large part to Alabama’s 21-9 edge on the offensive glass.
