On Sunday, Nov. 15, Alabama Governor Robert Bentley released a statement that says he is refusing to let Syrian refugees relocate to the state. According to the statement, the decision was made in response to the terrorist attacks in Paris over the weekend.

“After full consideration of this weekend’s attacks of terror on innocent citizens in Paris, I will oppose any attempt to relocate Syrian refugees to Alabama through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program,” he said. “As your Governor, I will not stand complicit to a policy that places the citizens of Alabama in harm’s way.”

According to the governor’s press release, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has worked with several federal intelligence organizations to monitor any possible terrorist threats, and have found none directed to the state to date.

The state has one U.S. State Department approved refugee processing center located in Mobile, according to the statement.
