Senior Alexa Guarachi and junior Mary Anne Macfarlane will represent the Crimson Tide women’s tennis team at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., this week. The tournament will be held at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center beginning Thursday and continuing through Sunday, Nov. 11.
The singles draw is comprised of 32 players from across the country, and Alabama is one of only eight schools that has multiple players in the tournament. Both Guarachi and Macfarlane earned automatic bids into the tournament when Guarachi won the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships, and Macfarlane won the consolation draw at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships.
Guarachi will face the fourth-seeded Krista Hardebeck of Stanford, while the seventh-seeded Macfarlane will battle with Maho Kowase of Georgia.
In doubles, Guarachi and Macfarlane earned a first-round bye and await the winner of the match between Maci Epstein and Erin Vierra of Virginia or Robin Anderson and Pamela Montez of UCLA.
